Did you know: - That honey does not need refrigeration, and never turns bad? - That maintaining a hive can take a beekeeper only 5 hours a year? - When collecting nectar, a bee may fly as far as 5 miles from its hive? - That honey is only one of many useful items that bees produce? |

Backyard beekeeping is a growing trend, and the subject of the July's Green Speaker Series event. Yvonne Von Der Ahe, who became interested in the honey bee while completing the Missouri Master Naturalist Certification program, will be our speaker. She has kept honey bees since 2008 and enjoys making and selling products of the hive. Yvonne serves as newsletter editor for the Eastern Missouri Beekeepers Association, has presented at state and regional beekeeping conferences, and teaches continuing education beekeeping and soap making at St. Louis Community College.
The talk will be Thursday, July 19th, at 7pm at Longview Farm Park at 13525 Clayton Road, Town & Country, MO 63141. It will last no longer than an hour, and is free and open to the public. The Green Speaker Series is sponsored by Town & Country's Green Teem Commission.
Re-usable grocery bags will be given away, and honey and other products of the hive will be available for purchase. |
